Hidan was a fighter to the core. He loved killing almost as much as he loved his god. Perfect match of religion and man. He was the perfect priest of Jashin...Except in one aspect. Kakuzu. Jashinest priest were not allowed to love anyone except their god. Hidan broke that rule in the same way he did anything. Loud and bloody.
Jashin didn't like it at all.

"Kuzu?" Hidan leaned over the paper that his boyfriend was reading and grinned.
"Yes Hidan?" Kakuzu murmured without looking up.
"Don't we have a mission to go on?" The Immortal was dancing around from one foot to the other, anxious to be on their way to the killing. However Kakuzu was taking his sweet time, sipping at his coffee and reading his paper.
"Come on Kuzu!" Hidan was begging like an addict for his drug. Kakuzu relented.
"Fine." The Stitched ninja stood and gulped the last of the coffee from his cup. They picked up their gear and started to walk out the door when Hidan collapsed.
"Hidan!" Kakuzu dropped his stuff and caught the falling priest. "Hey? What's wrong?" Hidan stiffened and tried to stand up again.
"I'm fine...Just fine." He looked at Kakuzu who was still holding him up. "I slipped, that's all." Hidan smiled as he lied to the man behind him. Hidan knew exactly what had really happened.
"Okay...Just be more careful next time..." Kakuzu let go of him. Hidan walked out with a sense of dread. What had Jashin done to him?

~~~~
They walked side by side, talking about little things that they had found they both enjoy. Like the new horror film coming out soon that they already had tickets to. They didn't notice the figure walking behind them.
Jashin looked at his once much loved priest with sadness. He knew that Hidan was faithful to him even though he had a lover. Jashin had decided to test Hidan and Kakuzu, to see if their love was worth letting them be. To see if Kakuzu truly loved Hidan.
Jashin brushed a tear away as he thought of the chain of events that were about to happen. Though he loved death and destruction, he wasn't looking forward to what he was about to do.
Fights were exciting, invigorating and enlightening in Hidan's mind. He loved giving up the lives of his enemies to Jashin. He fought with a new vigor every time he thought about it. This one was no different. The priest threw himself into the fray swinging his scythe with mad yet calculated slashes. He hit his targets every time, barely watching his back. Not that watching it could have prevented anything. Kakuzu fought towards the bounty, knowing Hidan could take care of himself, his being immortal helped feed Kakuzu's sense of security. Dead or alive, was all he thought. Dead was easier to carry. The bounty was down in a matter of seconds.
"Hidan? You killed all the guards yet?" Kakuzu turned and put the bounty in the basket. He glance over at Hidan, all the guards lying dead around him.
"C'mon Hidan, we need to go. You can pray later." Hidan didn't move, he stayed in his kneeling position not moving. Kakuzu sighed and walked over to the priest, feeling slightly annoyed. "Hidan-" The stitch ninja wasn't expecting what he saw.
Hidan was sitting, a pike impaling him from his lower back and exiting his collarbone. His eyes were glazed over and he wasn't moving.
"Hidan? don't kid around like this." The priest didn't answer. Kakuzu was starting to worry. He had seen hundreds of Hidan's rituals and he had never seen Hidan stabbed from that angle. Hidan hadn't done it to himself.
"Hey, wake up." The stitch ninja touched the priest's shoulder and shook gently. The shoulder was cold. Kakuzu looked down at the ground, it was soaked in blood. No one could survive that much blood loss.
Shakily he placed two fingers on Hidan's wrist, praying for a pulse. None. Kakuzu's eyes started filling with tears.
"Hidan? wake up please. Please. Please!" Sobs racked his body as he pulled Hidan's cold still body against him. No matter how much he pleaded though, his lover wouldn't wake up.
~~~~

Hidan watched his lover cry over his body without emotion.
"Why are you doing this Jashin-Sama?" He asked calmly. The god stood next to his favor disciple.
"I'm testing him. To see if he is worth me allowing you to remain together." The god answered.
"And if he isn't?" Hidan asked with a hint of worry and happiness. This test meant that Jashin might let them be together.
"You'll remain with me. If I deem him worthy, I'll allow you to return to the mortal realm as an immortal again."
"Why are you doing this for me, Jashin-Sama?"
"Because I want my son to be happy, and in order to do this I must test anything that could possibly make him unhappy." Hidan nodded. He wanted to see this through and see how Kakuzu would do.

~~~~
Kakuzu left the bounty. Instead he carried Hidan's corpse in his arms, not caring as he got more and more tired. His eyes streamed tears nonstop, and periodically he openly sobbed over his loss. He felt responsible for this. Hidan was dead because of his greed and ignorance. If he had been paying more attention he might have been able to jump between Hidan and the pike. He could've saved him. Hidan was gone. Kakuzu would never hear his laugh, see that sparkle that came into his eyes whenever something pleased him, see that cute little pout he had when he didn't get what he wanted. He would never be able to forget him either. He would never forget seeing his body, stained with blood and a pike through his chest. That sight would haunt his dreams forever now. Kakuzu at this moment swore that Hidan was to be his last. He would never be close to anyone or thing again. Childish as that was, it was his choice and he never went against his choices.
When the stitch ninja reach the Akatsuki hideout, the other members huddled around him and his cargo. Konan was crying and the men stood solemn. Hidan died? was that even possible? Kakuzu ignored all of them, walking towards their bedroom in a daze. The other members didn't try to follow, them being in shock themselves. Kakuzu closed the door and locked it behind them. He laid Hidan on his side of the bed and went to the bathroom. He returned with a wet cloth. He sat on he knees and methodically began wiping the blood off of the shirtless body. He cleaned until the body was back to it almost living glory. Kakuzu wiped his eyes on his sleeve.
"See Hidan? Almost as good as new!" He went to the closet and got Hidan's favorite cloak, the one he received the day he was granted his priesthood. He sat the body up and put the cloak on it. The black of the cloak contrasted with the pale body.
"Hidan? why did you die? Why?" The stitch ninja sobbed at the side of the bed. "I still need you! You weren't supposed to die first! You weren't going to die at all..." he held the body to him once more. Kakuzu now knew what he was going to do.
Wow. That was sad. However, I must admit I cracked up at the part about Kakuzu missing Hidan's laugh. Hmm. I guess everyone has different tastes. XD
